Widely regarded as a quintessential Chinese dish, the tomato egg rice is a classic homey dish which is very popular throughout Asia. While it is often seen as a Chinese dish, some suggest that it is probably Arab in origin. It is rather similar to an Arab dish called Shakshuka as well as the Turkish dish named Menemen.
Another reason why it is likely a dish with an “Arab” origin is that Muslim people took to the tomato very early on in its introduction in the Old World. Regardless of its origin, it’s a dish favoured by many and we’re sure you’ll enjoy it.
Our Classic Tomato Egg Rice features juicy red tomatoes mixed with softly scrambled eggs served over short, premium Japanese Pearl Rice and Japanese cucumber. It is sweet, sour and savoury at the same time, and brings back nostalgic feelings of childhood for many.
